Have been having

My non-native English speaking friends said the phrase, have been having, is grammatically wrong in general. I have made up the two sentences with it below.

(1) Throughout my life, I have been having a lot of difficulties in making friends.

(2) I have been having the flu for two weeks already.

If my friends are correct, my sentences are wrong. What is your opinion? Thanks a lot.
