Have been?

If you are on a shopping or sightseeing trip and you are asked how your trip is going, is the following OK to describe the last 3/4 days?

I have been excited.

Is this a better answer?

I have been having an exciting time.

Is the I have been pattern suitable here? What difference does having make?

Thank you.

I'd forget about the first one. Yes, "have been having" is suitable. There are many ways to say it, but yours is good because it implies that the fun is not yet over.
