  • I guess you could say that a tendency to be a certain way is less likely than when it is usual or common to be it, but I suspect that he employed litotes and actually meant that advanced knights pretty much always throw a money wrench in the opponent's plans or whatever they are supposed to be doing.

Something like that. It's like saying lions can get grouchy when you try to take a piece of meat away from them, or that volcanoes have a tendency to make life difficult in their vicinity from time to time. Litotes. Understatement.

"Have a tendency" is a little sarcastic, for want of a better word. "Usually is/are" is straightforward.
