Have a question a sentence

Hi,

What's the meanning of "You're are officially kidding"?

Thank you.

Top answer

"You're" means "you are", so "you're are" means "you are are". Is that what you really meant? I suspect that "You're officially kidding" means "You are truly not speaking seriously".

"You're officially kidding" is only a sentence of word-playing style, for humorous or sarcastic purpose, where "officially" is in stark contrast with "kidding".

Other examples of this style :

- You are such a serious joker, aren't you.
- I am suffering a healthy dose of discomfort.
- He screwed it up in a brilliant way.

I guess they are oxymorons.

An oxymoron is a combination of two words that are completely opposite in meaning. You've probably heard many of these before but didn't realize that
they fall within this category.

Good grief
Government organization
Legally drunk
Small crowd
