Have a listen to this

Hi

I am aware that the phrase (have a listen to this) is mainly used by TV and radio announcers, but could you tell me if it is used in everyday life? How does it sound to your native ears?

Thanks,

Tom

I think it is a play on "have a look at this", which is an unremarkable locution. It is slightly annoying because it is would-be clever and presumes intimacy somewhat, but I am a prickly so-and-so who might well be imagining that. It is not commonly heard in everyday speech, at least not in the Middle Atlantic states of the USA.
