Have a crack at someone

The rain has stopped now, much to the dismay of the Proteas(South Africa team). The Indians would be itching to go out there and have a crack at them(South Africa team). The umpires haven't yet made their way to the middle. Stay tuned for the updates....

Could you please explain to me what "have a crack" means here?
