Have a cow/ Don't have a cow

Hi

I want to know if the idiom "have a cow" is OK in everyday conversation. Or does it sound uneducated?

Please don't have a cow; he'll be back in a minute.

Thanks,

Tom

It's definitely slang. You are more likely to hear "Chill, man! Don't have a cow.

It's definitely slang. You are more likely to hear "Chill, man! Don't have a cow. Everything's cool." than "Please don't have a cow; he'll be back in a minute." Try "Please relax . . . " or "Don't get upset . . . " or "Take it easy" instead.
