Have a bit of good faith/your typical

Hi

A certain journalist wanted to talk to some lady. He told her: I'll tell you something and you'll tell me something.

She asked: Like what?

He said: I want you to tell me something about your father.

She replied: And if I do, what can you tell me.

He said: We have to have a bit of good faith there. But I can tell you that he struck me immediately as not being your typical drifter. He was too well-spoken, too cunning. And his physical abilities spoke for themselves. According to what I've learned, he beat up three men on a train, saved a man's life using battery cables and fought off three other men wielding baseball bats. Not your typical wandering soul.

1.Does it mean "we have to trust each other a little bit"? (we have to have a bit of good faith there)

2. I'm wondring why he said: "your typical drifter". Does it just mean: He struck me as not being a typical tramp?

your typical X, your usual X, your ordinary X, and so on, are all used in casual speech to say 'your [typical / usual / ordinary / ...] idea of what an X is'. So 'Not your typical wandering soul' is 'Not what you would typically call "a wandering soul" '.
