Hasta que

Hello everyone,

How would you say " Tenemos que añadir ceros delante del número hasta tener 10 dígitos" in English? I am confused as I don´t know if you can use " until" here. My understanding is that until is only used with time phrases.

My attempts
We have to add zeros before the number until it has 10 digits
We have to add zeros before the number up it has 10 digits
We have to add zeros before the number to it has 10 digits
We have to add zeros before the number up to it has 10 digits

Many thanks

This is an English-only forum, so I would normally just delete a translation request, but it seems to me that even though 'delante de' means 'in front of', your zeros should come AFTER the number: We have to add zeros after the number until it has ten digits.

I would not translate that literally. I would say

We have to add enough zeros in front of the given number to make a 10-digit number.

Could you explain to me how adding zeros in front increases the number of digits? For instance, if we do that to the number 27, we get this:

0000000027

What kind of a 10-digit number is that?

Initial zeros are frequently seen in computer applications. I imagine that's the reason for the instruction to add the zeros at the beginning.
.
There are 10 possible "digits", and "0" is one of them, so in computer terminology, even something like "000" is a three-digit number.
