The afternoon sun shone brightly in the deep blue sky. The air rippled in the searing temperature of the Halamari Desert in the South Continent. Leafless trees grew short and crisp in the sandy dunes, their roots running deep into the yellow ground. Camels walked carrying packages, blankets and people through the treacherous plains. Located near a group of oasis, the desert town Yunon stood there, busy as ever.
“Come on, we have to go get to school,” said a red head wearing dark brown robes.
“Why are you in such a hurry? Come on, we have all day,” said a carefree girl.
“No, we do not. We have to get to school to learn things,” insisted Jade.
“Whatever you say, serious girl,” said the girl and followed lazily behind the red head.
The market street was filled with stalls, pitchers and pots, not to mention people. They were mainly mothers who were on their daily morning shopping and peddlers selling weird to necessities. The local “school” was a brick house with a single classroom. What, you expected a grand academy or something? Anyway, the girl took her sit and the red head next to her.
“Bonjour, class,” said an old woman who was supposedly their teacher.
“Good morning, Miss Remsen,” said the class together. “Monique, stop chewing that gum,” said Miss Remsen.
“Whatever,” said the girl and spit it out of the window. “Hey, Jade what are we going to do this afternoon?”
“Shh! Monique, we’re in the middle of class!” said the red head, which was obviously Jade.
“Okay, class. Today it’s the day…” the lady was interrupted by a loud knock.
“Open,” said a voice imperatively.
It didn’t wait for the lady to come and answer the door. The door just slid open with a soft creak, revealing a middle-aged man wearing a striking purple and gold robe. He had a “Á” on his robe, and it generally symbolized the Ultin Holy Council.
“May I speak to a Jade Hemorb, my good lady?” asked the figure.
“Oh, Arch Bishop! Sure, sure of course you may!” said the teacher.
This man was here as an ambassador to resolve the whole war on the entire world thing.
“What do you think of this place, Jade?” asked the bishop walking with Jade.
“It is nice, but I would prefer the absence of war, if you don’t mind me commenting,” said Jade.
“Not at all. In fact, I completely agree with you,” said the bishop. “It is this government’s choice to declare war on us, but we want to find a way to a better and more peaceful resolution.”
“I am listening,” said Jade.
“We need you to come with us the North Continent, to the Land of Promise,” said the bishop.
“Why would such a holy place need the presence of a mere mortal such as I?” asked Jade.
“Ah, but you’re not any mortal, Jade. No, you’re something very special,” said the bishop. He took out a pouch and in it was a beautiful gemstone, an emerald. It was cut into a perfect hemisphere.
“What’s this?” asked Jade.
“You’ll find out soon,” said the bishop.
They finally reached a green circular platform. The boarded it, an it brought them over the sea towards the Grand Cathedral up in the Land of Promise…
…The Cathedral was really big, as most cathedrals are. The halls were all white and warm, even in the Tundra climate of the Land of Promise. The bishop finally led her to her room, a green room with luxurious bedspreads and full-length windows. It was heaven for Jade, as she was from a very poor country.
“Have a rest, you’ve had a long journey. Tea will be served in three hours,” said the bishop and left Jade there to enjoy her room.
When she awoke she found herself in a large hall. The floor was tiled white with a red pentagram. What was she doing here? Was she carried here or something?
“Where… how did I get here?” asked Jade, half to herself.
“You have mastered your powers already, how wonderful,” said a blonde man. He had hair to his shoulders and was wearing crimson armour with a single katana hanging from his belt. The robust figure held his gauntlet worn hands to help Jade up.
“Powers? What powers?” asked Jade.
“Molecular Shattering Teleportation,” said the blonde figure.
“Um, okay very well,” said Jade thinking that this man was crazy.
“As unbelievable as that sounds, it is nothing but the truth,” said the blonde. “Come, we may discuss this over tea in the parlour.”
