Grammar

has something to do / had something to do

Hello!
I'm checking out a book translation from english to french and need to know which sentence is correct :
(...) a man who talks fast as if he has something to do with racing
or
(..) a man who talks fast as if he had something to do with racing

or are both correct?

Many thanks!
Céline

Yes. The tense after "as if" is quite variable. Although I don't know the rest of the sentence, my guess is that "had" sounds better.
