has never lead

Listening to my mother has never led to anything good.

Listening to my mother never leads to anything good.

Is there any difference in meaning? I believe the first sentence suggests so far, the mother's advice has not been helpful while the second states that her advice is never helpful.

Am I right?

Thanks in advance.
