Has led?

"Space technology has led many useful inventions and spin-offs including light-emitting diodes (LED)." I don't quite understand the sentence. In the sentence, what exactly "has led" mean here? (1) does it mean space technology has led the inventions and spin-offs that have been ALREADY CREATED? If so, leading them in what way or into what?(2) does it mean space technology HAS BROUGHT/CREATED many inventions and spinoffs? I really don't understand what has led means in the sentence. Could you help clarify it? Thanks.
