Has happened ?

Why do we use "Has/Have" before changed/happened/died instead of instead of "is" ?

What has happened to you ? He has died. People's thinking have changed over the years.

Shouldn't we be using "is/are" instead of "has/have" ?

I seem to be very confused. I know there is going to be an answer for this. Please explain it why and also if possible, give me few other words like "happen/change" where "is" isn't correct but has. Thanks in advance!

'... over the years' means that a present perfect is the natural choice. The subject of the sentence is People's thinking , so the verb must be has changed.
