I would like to add to the answers already posted....
In #1, if you are letting someone know about your being late, "has had" suggests his asthmatic condition is ongoing that you need to take him to a doctor. So I'd incline to use " is having an asthma attack....". Also, I believe "uncle" is a restrictive case, so no comma.
