has got

I think she's got a yeast infection

I think she has [got] cancer.

I believe the second sentence does not need 'got while the first one does.

Thanks in advance

Written as it is (with she has contracted to she's ) got is indeed required in the first sentence.

1. Absolutely! Otherwise one would be saying that she is a yeast infection.

2. The construction of 'has + got', as some might recall, is one that I studiously avoid!

You only have three choices.

She has [a yeast infection / cancer / the flu / ...].
She has got [a yeast infection / cancer / the flu / ...].
She's got [a yeast infection / cancer / the flu / ...].
