Dr. P did his best to fix the unnatural shape of my nose by making it bulbous. Naturalness was/had been the main goal for the revision, so overall I'm very satisfied.

Don't you guys understand that I'm not repeating the same questions? Each context has a different sentence structure therefore the way the verbs are used differently, so it confuses me. I'm here to learn, so I persistently write out the things I use on a daily basis.

Every time you find yourself in a simple past / past perfect quandary, just ask yourself this question: Is the sequence of events clear with the simple past? If the answer is no, use the past perfect; that’s what it’s for.
