There is such a sentence:

The company has been tranformed from a family business to a multi-million-pound operation.

My students ask me, can we say:

The company has tranformed from a family business to a multi-million-pound operation.

Wangqh: Probably the passive is the better answer.It shows that the company was transformed by some hard-working executives. If you don't like the passive, perhaps you could say, "The company has grown from ...."
