Hi,

1. Can you help to know whether the definite article "the" is needed or can do without? Maybe, this is a better question; which way do you prefer? With "the" or without?

The Believer library has a great collection of books and ... (This made-up library name has a proper noun which is the name "Believer," I think.)

He got dressed and ate at the Gallaudet cafeteria. (I got this sentence from an education website.)

2. When you are making a generic (general??) statement regarding the insect "ant," using the indefinite noun is the only way go? Can I use the definite noun?

An ant is an insect.

The ant is an insect. (Is this wrong?)

If the person was already familiar with the idea of ants, then say "the ant."

A: Tell me about ants.

B: The ant is an insect.

A: What's an ant?

B: An ant is...

The same with any idea of something not introduced before.
