Hello Guys, which one of the following sentences are (is?) right?

a) The president has been taken to hospital for an emergency operation.

b)The president was being taken to (the?)hospital for an emergency operation.

As Mister Micawber said, both of them are correct but with difference in meaning.

The first sentence indicates that the president is still under operation, whereas the second sentence shows a finished action in the past. Since past continuous is used, the listener expects the speaker to talk about another event that coincided the first one.
