Has Beat or Has Beaten?

Hi!! I am reading a book by a well known author, and the first sentence stopped me in my tracks with a grammar question. "The Atlantic ocean has beat upon the shore. . ." Is that correct? Should it not be has beaten? Thanks!

Hi,

My dictionary only offers 'beaten' as the past participle, and only that sounds OK to me.

I'm sure there are other threads about this question, if you search for them.

Here's a very recent one in which Khoff agrees with Clive:

I prefer "beat," along with your well known author.
