has a cousin visiting

Mary: John has a cousin visiting.

Does it mean that John's cousin is already in town or does it mean the cousin will be visiting some time soon?

Thanks in advance!

Either one. It works the same as other -ing constructions. I'm visiting my cousin could mean right this minute or in the future.
