Hard-working/hard working

Hello,

1. He is a hard-working employee (hyphen OK).
2. This employee is hard working.

Is it okay not to put a hyphen in #2? My teacher says it is because the adjective comes after the noun. I'd just like to double-check.

Thank you.

I agree with what your teacher and Philip have said. As the adjective comes after the noun in #2, no hyphen is necessary.
