Hard VS Difficult

I was once taught that HARD is the opposite of SOFT whereas Difficult is the opposite of EASY. Is this differentiation between the words HARD and Difficult correct?

Hi, English is not maths. One word can have more than just one meaning, and " hard " can be both the opposite of " soft " and the opposite of " easy ". Have a look at these two entries from the Cambridge dictionary.
