Hard to understand this sentence structure

In the sentence,

Using tip of sharp knife incise top of each apple with a small cross.

I think incise is a verb.. but where is the subject?

Also, Is the phrase "Using tip of sharp knife" is a participial construction explaining the simultaneous action?

Don't I need to put articles? like "Using the tip of a sharp knife"

I'm South Korean and fun to study English but English is so difficult.. Help me please~~~
