Hard to prove yourself

Hi

A man is talking to a woman and is asking her why she never left this town.

She says: Divine's a little pond but I know it well. Hard to prove yourself all over in a new place.

Does it mean that it's hard to gain anything in a completely new place?

By the way:

As great as that sounds, I need ...

Does it mean: Doesn't matter how seriously it sounds, I need ...

Thanks
