Happenings

The italicized text below will appear in a guidebook to a tropical island. The tone should be both informative and entertaining. Does the use of "happenings" sound pretentious or too informal to native speakers? I'm also considering "events" and "activities," but they seem overused in the book.

The island never runs out of happenings all year round. Be it water sports, mountain treks, food fests, live performances, or all-night parties, there’s always something here for every tourist.

Please feel free to comment on the rest of the text. Thanks!
