Hans-Hermann Hoppe

Yesterday I was browsing through a thread about liberalism on another forum, and a poster mentioned about Hans-Hermann Hoppe in his one-line post. And no other forumites questioned who he was.

I looked thehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans-Hermann_Hoppe#Controversy_over_remarks_about_homosexuals_and_academic_freedom, and read some profile of his.

Is he a household name in the US or well-known among educated Americans there? He is a professor emeritus. Why is his profile available in Wekipedia as there are numerous professors in the US?

Thanks!
