Hanging Modifier?

As a writer, one item of necessity is the naming of characters.
Does the preceding sentence present a hanging modifier because "As a writer" does not directly modify the subject "one item of necessity"? I have to admit I'm a little uncertain about this.

Anonymous I have to admit I'm a little uncertain about this. It certainly seems to need recasting. It's pretty simple: For a writer, one item of necessity is the naming of characters.
