"moon about" /"hang around"/ "fool around"

Question:

Top answer

Moon around - similar to hang around but it makes me think of really aimless 'in-the-way' hanging around - like a hungry teenager in a kitchen. Fool around means to behave in a silly way, to clown about, to mess about. Or it can also have a meaning of adultery (if you fool around behind someone's back it means you are unfaithful to them)

So you could say that 'fool around' is more or less similar to 'horse around' so frequently used by the main hero of Catcher in the Rye?
