Handwritten Letter

Question

In the process of being promoted at work, the first step is to submit a 'letter of interest' to the Human Resources Mangager. They require the letter to be handwritten. This seems odd to me. Aside from wanting to see my penmanship, (which I feel can be seen elsewhere in the interview process) does anyone know why they would require this? Is this common practice in the business world?

I think it is odd too. There are some that believe you can see the soul of the person by analyzing their handwriting. Is the handwriting small and precise? Probably indicates a narrow thinker, someone who has difficulty living or thinking outside the box. But on the other hand, the person is obedient and follows directions very well. If the handwriting large and extravagant? Artistic flair, entrepreneurial bent. Probably poor as heck at managing deadlines. You get the picture.

If you are right handed, write the letter with your left hand. Let them analyze that! (I am being facetious.)

Try Googling "handwriting analysis" (w/o quotes) and you'll find lots of stuff. Also, have a look at the second post in this section. There is something about "Meyers Briggs" personality test. Might as well learn about that too. You are likely going to be subjected to a personality test. Maybe even an aptitude test.

All this stuff seems a bit Orwellian to me. But some companies like this stuff. I don't.
