Handwriting should no longer be taught in schools

Hi

Please review this essay.

Some people believe that handwriting is no longer useful in the modern world and should not be taught in schools. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Writing with hand gives a sense of happiness that cannot be felt when we use a typewriter or any other writing tool. In addition, it has certain other advantages over those of the modern world. So, I strongly feel that schools should continue to teach handwriting.

First, when we write with our hand, we sense of personal connect with not only the words but also the person to whom we write. We feel this connect more when we write to our dearest ones. This gives us a great amount of happiness. Further, the handwritten word written in a way which is unique to every individual evokes the feelings of love, affection and kindness in the reader and makes him or her feel the presence of the writer. This is the reason people get emotional when they read personal diaries of their friends or relatives. On the other hand, the printed word, which has a fixed form and size, does not evoke such feelings. The sharp or generic contours of the letters seem to represent a serious tone or a sense of formality.

Further, though the advancements in technology have provided us with various forms of writing tools, writing with hand is a simple and more reliable choice. The problems with typewriters is that sometimes, when the keys get stuck, the letters get piled on top of each other. Another problem with them is improper installation of ribbons. In the case of modern writing tools, most of them require electricity or at least a battery with adequate charge. But, writing with hand requires just a pen and a sheet of paper. Further, it does not confine us to a particular place for electricity or other requirements.

In conclusion, schools should not only continue teaching handwriting to students but also help them understand the benefits of writing with hand.
