Handwriting

Some people think it is important to teach children the skill of handwriting. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In this technological world, handwriting skills still play a considerable role in our life, so school students are believed to master those. In my view, I fully approve that teaching them how to write beautifully is crucial.

The argument in favor of the ineffectiveness of handwriting would be that after leaving schools, children will be required to use flexibly modern gadgets such as computers and calculators to work rather than such traditional ways like taking notes. Hence, it would be a waste of time and efforts to teach them those skills which they will probably not need in the future. As reasonable this view is, I consider it to be shortsighted, because even though the role of electronic equipment is undeniable, handwriting is still necessary in several circumstances. For example, when I have the intention to attend a local club in my city, filling a physical application form my details is doubtlessly a must for me to do which does not require my skills to use technology at all.

Otherwise, I am convinced that once youngsters are good at handwriting, they will benefit so much. Firstly, they will become more patient. It seems to me that to make their handwriting look neat and eye-catching, people need to practice a lot. Thereby, their patience levels will be bigger and bigger through the times when they fix mistakes. Secondly, nice handwriting also contributes to their better study. I believe that were their notebooks to be messy with careless handwriting, it would be so tough on students to review correct notes before an examination because sometimes, they do not even recognize everything they wrote if they keep writing casually. Finally, as I perceive, children whose handwriting is careful tend to have the knack for arts, particularly drawing. Accordingly, teaching them handwriting skills is also the way to develop their arts talents.

In conclusion, however useless handwriting skills may be, I wholly agree that not only do they help children to be more patient but also help them to study more effectively and love arts.
