Handwrite handwrote

Hello
can somebody tell me is it OK to use the verb to handwrite (I can't find it in the Oxford English dictionary)and is the past tense handwrote.? .I see it being used on the Internet. I have a feeling it is incorrect to use it.
Thanks
Jay

Hi;
Handwritten is a common adjective, and handwriting a common noun. The verb handwrite: is extremely uncommon.(I've never seen it used - well, maybe a couple of times!.) Normally I would say one of these:

He wrote a letter / note.
He wrote the letter by hand.
He penned a letter.
He wrote / jotted it down.
