Is this sentence ok?

The central idea is the same, but we usually say that things are with arm's reach. If you want to be stricter and more direct, say that the things must be "Right in front of you," or the somewhat harsher, "In your face."

It doesn't sound quite idiomatic to me. In my opinion, the idiom to hand fits better.

To hand means something accessible (that can be easily reached).

You must *have the essential things to hand.
