hand-pumped tube well

Have you seen a hand-pumped tube well? You have you press the handle down and up to draw water. What do you call this action? Pump the tube well? Can I say: He is pumping the tube well? Thanks.

Actually, I didn't know it was called a 'tube well'. We used to just call them 'wells', with a hand pump. We pumped water from the well.
