Hand my assignement

Is it correct to say that I handed my assignement to my teacher if I've sent it through e-mail?

Thanks

No, I don't think it's correct. Simply say "I sent my assignment by email". There may be some confusion here with 'handed in' and 'turned in'.

Thank you Philip

So if I give it in person I should say "I handed my assignment to my teacher"

And could I say for example "I turned in my assignment today"

As it goes by the literal meaning of handed, it should be in person. But for "turn in" you can say " I turned in" my assignment this morning even if you had sent them via email.

Think of the basic idea this way.

I handed my assignment to my teacher.
I held out my hand, containing the assignment.
He put out his hand, and took it from my hand.

I handed in
