hand in hand

Do we say 'hand in hand'?
How do we say it?
You aren't allowed to gave me something hand in hand. You need to place it on the table and only then can I pick it up.

Thanks

It would be hand-to-hand . But I've heard that term in English only with combat , so the use you mention seems odd to me. I do know, however, that in many cultures money does not go from hand to hand in a store, but rather via a saucer.
