Hand

Hello!

I'm trying to translate a text about a bag designer. And in the sentence below, the designer explains how he couldn't imitate a rival's design. What does "hand" mean here? Is it the part of a bag or what?

“What a disaster,” he said. “I just couldn’t do it. The hand wasn’t there.”

I can only assume that this use of "hand" is the same as when it is used to refer to fabric - literally, the way the fabric feels when you touch it. Something about the finished bags just didn't feel right.

My opinion: "Hand" seems to refer to his talent. In other words, he just didn't have the talent (in his hands) to imitate the other designer's product.
