It doesn't seem like a very romantic word.

"To hamper" is "to impede," but I'm not sure of the exact meaning.
I wouldn't use "impede" in your sentence either.

If we knew what "all this" is, exactly, perhaps we could choose an appropriate word.

Its like, If i meant :

I mean by doing any mistakes I dont want to 'spoil' or 'hamper' or 'affect' 'overcome' 'stop' etc.. my true devotion for you..

I'd probably use "mask" or "hide, or "conceal."

If you think of devotion as an emotion (which perhaps you don't) then only negative emotions would have an adverse e

If iam demonstrative (show any emotions), this person might "take it the wrong way," and think Iam being selfish.

and I myself find my true devotion for this person missing , or being concealed.
