Hamlet

Hi!

This is written in the context of Hamlet. Can you tell me please, which term would be more appropriate?

But the fact that he is coming back and the place to which he is coming back – define/determine him irrevocably

Thanks

I think that "defines" sounds best. Also, I would suggest an adverb other than "irrevocably". Perhaps one of the following will strike your fancy: unquestionably, surely, undeniably, obviously, indisputably, truly, inarguably, or irrefutably.

To me, it's a tough call between 'define' (describe the essential qualities of...) and 'determine' (settle or establish precisely...). But finally, I thi

Thank you very much Clive. Unfortunately I had to hand in the translation early in the morning so I didn't have enough time to read your post. But, I'll keep your suggestion in mind.
