Hallways are interior passages of buildings off which rooms branch - the stems of buildings, if the rooms are the leaves. A roofed area at the entrance to the house is often called something like a porch, stoop, or deck, although these do not require rooves. If the area is also walled or screened, depending on its intended function, it might be called something like a Florida room, Arizona room, screened-in porch or sunroom if it's meant to allow people to enjoy the outdoors while still being somewhat sheltered, or a mudroom or (perhaps) foyer if it's meant to provide basically an airlock to the house and allow guests to remove coats and perhaps shoes before entering.
