Hi. Are these without the word "of" after the word "half" correct? Does the placement of the phrase "half of the food" - whether in the place of a subject or whether it comes after a verb - have any bearing on the inclusion of the word "of" in the phrase?
1. Half (of) the food should be eaten at the table.
2. They should eat half (of) the food at the table.
