"Half past dead"?

Yesterday I was watching TV when a channel announced as coming next a movie named "Half past dead".

I don't understand that, honestly.

How can one have "half a death"? And what does "past" there except make things worse for me to understand?

Or is it some kind of idiom?

Please, help me understand that. TIA.

Hi, Movie titles don't have to make sense. It just sounds like the writer is playing with the standard phrase that is used to tell the time. Clive
