half-past

I am taking my phonology exam tomorrow.I can not understand one thing. Why is “half-past” pronounced as / ha:-past/ ? Why is / f / omitted?

I believe the dialect you are studying just does that, there may not be a reason. We pronounce the "f" in AmE.

This is hugely interesting. What dialect could it be?

I find I sometimes omit it when speaking very fast.
