Half cannons-royal

Dear all:

What is the meaning of "half cannons-royal" in the following passage? It is from a German travelogue of 300 years ago.

The fort has many metal cannons and half cannons-royal, while it has a strong garrison of 3 to 4,000 men.

Many thanks in advance.
