Hadn't had to

Hi,

If me and another person are talking about the past and I say
" I did [something] , so that I hadn't had to do it again" , to mean that I did something so that I wouldn't have to do something else again but it all has already happened in the past ? Would it be the correct choice of verb tenses?

Thanks!
