had/if

Hi

Would you have studied something different had you had a choice to go back in time?

--can I also write ".....if you had a choice to go back in time?" Is it more formal to write "had you had"?

thanks

I'm not sure what you mean. Either 1. Would you have studied something different if you had had / had you had the chance/opportunity to do so?

Omitting if is more formal.
