Had/have

If I told you that the short leg of this right triangle had/have a length x then hypotenuse would be?

If could be "has" but not "have," so if those are you only choices, then only "had' works.

Is the use of "has" possible here as the sentence is hypothetical conditional 2?

I think it would be better to keep the tenses parallel:

If I tell you it has...

If I told you it had...

But it would not be impossible to use "has" since it's still true with the past tense "told."

or "then the hypotenuse would be...?" and you trail off to let the person fill in the blank.

But I did not look at the second part of the sentence very carefully obviously, and didnt notice the problems it has.
