Top answer

Hi, I had some dreams, but they had/have never come true. Have OR Had??? 'Have', because it covers the period from the time of the dreams to now.

  • Hi, I had some dreams, but they had/have never come true.
  • Have OR Had???
  • 'Have', because it covers the period from the time of the dreams to now.
  • 'Had' is perhaps possible, but much less likely, because it seems to refer to the period up until the time you had the dreams.
  • In other words, it raises the rather philosophical question of whether a dream can come true before you have it.

Hello manofsteel, and welcome to the forums. I'm afraid your reasoning doesn't work. "Had" can be used for plural nouns as well.

There's one more possibility: I had dreams, but they never came true.
